Film favorites Danny DeVito and Richard Griffiths may join forces to play a retired comedy duo in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. According to the daily, Simon has indicated that he will revisit the script, and plans are in the works for the two actors to meet and see if they have the chemistry needed to play Al Lewis and Willy Clark, a one-time vaudeville act asked to reunite on television. No word yet on whether the play would start in London or New York, should comedic sparks fly between the two actors.
DeVito is best known for his work on films like Romancing The Stone, Batman Returns, Throw Mamma From The Train and the Oscar-winning film version of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, as well as television hits like Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Griffiths, a veteran of the Harry Potter films, appeared on Broadway in Equus and is a Tony and Olivier Award winner for his role in Alan Bennett's The History Boys. His other screen roles include King Ralph, Sleepy Hollow, Guarding Tess and popular British television drama Pie in the Sky.
The Sunshine Boys was originally staged on Broadway in 1972. It was later made into a movie starring George Burns and Walter Matthau.
