The new play The Mountaintop has taken a few historical liberties as the show reimagines the final night in the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, before he was assassinated at Memphis' Lorraine Motel in 1968. In Katori Hall's drama, King (Samuel L. Jackson) is greeted by a motel maid named Camae (Angela Bassett) and the duo strike up a night-long conversation about the Civil Rights leader's work and his fear of mortality. Jackson recently chatted with the CBS Evening News about how the play tries to show a different side of Dr. King than audiences are used to. So, would Martin Luther King Jr. himself approve of the play? Click below to find out what Jackson has to say!
