Acclaimed playwright Nicky Silver's world premiere comedy The Lyons officially opens at off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre on October 11. Tony winners Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa lead the production, which is directed by Mark Brokaw. The limited engagement runs through October 30.
The Lyons follows a family grappling with the death of its patriarch. When Rita (Lavin), the wife of Ben Lyons (Latessa), and their grown children (played by Michael Esper and Kate Jennings Grant) gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Ben’s death may be a catalyst that propels them into foreign territory—human connection.
"Nicky Sliver is just remarkable and has an ear for these people who live in such torture, and torture each other in the process," Lavin recently told Broadway.com. "I’m really impressed with the quality of work and I enjoy going into work every day so much."
