Olympic track star John Carlos made headlines in 1968 after raising his fist to symbolize "black power" while claiming his bronze medal at the Mexico City summer games. More than 40 years later, Carlos is still politically active, taking part in the Occupy Wall Street protests in downtown Manhattan earlier this week. Carlos also managed to find time to head uptown and catch Broadway's newest historical drama, The Mountaintop, which stars Samuel L. Jackson as Martin Luther King Jr. and Angela Bassett as a mysterious maid named Camae. After the October 11 matinee, Carlos ventured backstage at the Jacobs Theatre to snap a photo with the Oscar-nominated duo and congratulate them on a job well done. Hoping to be inspired by the words of Dr. King as well? Then book your tickets to The Mountaintop!
