The first-ever Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz's Godspell, starring Weeds' Hunter Parrish as Jesus, begins performances on October 13 at Circle in the Square Theatre. Directed by Daniel Goldstein, the production is set to officially open on November 7.
"It's a classic musical and Stephen Schwartz's music is amazing," Parrish recently told Broadway.com. "I'm looking forward to sharing the stage with [my co-stars] and showing the audience the fun we've been having [in rehearsal.]"
After a successful five year run at off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre beginning in 1971, Godspell transferred to Broadway on June 22, 1976, before closing at the Ambassador Theatre after 527 performances. The musical features classic songs including "Day By Day," "By My Side" and "All For the Best."
The cast of Godspell also features Wallace Smith as Judas, Telly Leung (who is currently hosting his own backstage video blog for Broadway.com), Anna Marie Perez de Tagle, Uzo Aduba, Celisse Henderson, Morgan James and Lindsay Mendez.
