Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay and her husband, War Horse cast member Peter Hermann, have added a third child to their family. Six months after adopting daughter Amaya Josephine, the couple has adopted a baby son, Andrew Nicolas Hargitay Hermann, according to People.com. The family also includes five-year-old big brother August.
Hargitay told People.com that she and Hermann began the process of a second adoption over the summer, not imagining that they would be successful so soon. “We never in a million years thought it would happen this quickly, but something inside of us knew that this was right, and we said, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’” the 47-year-old actress is quoted as saying. “We knew this was our guy. Everything about it felt right. It felt divinely right.”
Hermann, who plays a German officer in the Tony-winning drama at Lincoln Center Theater, spoke warmly of parenthood in What’s Up interview with Broadway.com published in July. “[Amaya] is divine and very happy and very mellow,” he said of the couple’s daughter. “She is taking her life in stride, and we are hugely, hugely grateful. Everything is blending beautifully, and Mariska and I are very, very excited to be able to say ‘the kids’” Asked if he was getting any sleep, Hermann quipped, “Yeah, four minutes here and seven minutes there, but it all adds up.”
