Stephanie J. Block will temporarily take over the leading role in Anything Goes in November. Sutton Foster, who won a Tony Award for her performance as Reno Sweeney in the revival, is taking a leave of absence in order to film a TV pilot for "two or three weeks," according to a production spokesperson. Block's specific performance dates have not been announced.
Block most recently appeared on the New York stage in By the Way, Meet Vera Stark off-Broadway. Her Broadway credits include 9 to 5, Wicked, The Pirate Queen and The Boy from Oz.
In addition to Foster, the cast of the Roundabout Theatre Company production includes Joel Grey as Moonface Martin, John McMartin as Elisha Whitney, Kelly Bishop as Evangeline Harcourt, Colin Donnell as Billy Crocker, Adam Godley as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, Erin Mackey as Hope Harcourt, Jessica Stone as Erma, Walter Charles as Captain, Robert Creighton as Purser, Andrew Cao as Luke and Raymond J. Lee as John.
Anything Goes, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, has extended its run at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre through April 29, 2012.
