Recording artist and actor Aaron Carter will join the off-Broadway cast of The Fantasticks in the role of rebellious young romantic Matt on November 7. He succeeds Matt Leisy, who will remain with the company in the role of The Mute. The musical continues its run at the Snapple Theatre Center.
The cast of The Fantasticks also includes Bradley Dean, Bill Bateman, Matt Dengler, MacIntyre Dixon, Tom Flagg, Addi McDaniel, Michael Nostrand, Dan Sharkey, Juliette Trafton and Charles West.
Carter, who has appeared on Broadway in Seussical, has released four albums, Aaron Carter, Aaron's Party(Come Get It), Oh, Aaron and Another Earthquake. His film credits include Fat Albert, Ella Enchanted, Supercross and I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With. His television credits include Figure It Out, Lizzie McGuire, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, 48 Hours Mystery, Family Affair, 7th Heaven, Penn & Teller: Off the Deep End, House of Carters and season nine of Dancing With the Stars.
Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks concerns two neighboring fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love—knowing that children always do what their parents forbid. After the young lovers discover their fathers' plot, each goes off to experience the world before returning to each other. The score includes such hits as “Try To Remember,” “They Were You” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”
