Halloween is the most theatrical holiday, so it makes perfect sense that Broadway actors—who know a thing or two about rocking a costume—would embrace the spooky season. We asked your favorite stage stars to share their memories of yummy treats, silly tricks and the best and worst costumes they ever wore. Read on for inspiration, and Happy Halloween!
CHANDRA LEE SCHWARTZ (Glinda in Wicked)
What is your Halloween costume this year?
I am pretty sure I am going to cover myself in glitter and dress up as Glinda from Wicked, just like I do every day.
What’s your favorite Halloween candy, and why?
Candy corn for sure… but I can only eat like five before I start feeling nauseous. What is that stuff made of!?!
What was your favorite Halloween costume of all time, and how old were you when you wore it?
One year when I was a child, maybe seven or eight, I dressed up as a Christmas tree. My mother made this elaborate Christmas tree costume out of green mesh lace, complete with ornaments and a star for the top of my head! Looking back, this sounds embarrassing, but at the time I loved it.
What do you love most about Halloween?
I love that Halloween is a time for people to express themselves through their costumes. You get a glimpse into their unconscious mind… now you have a glimpse into mine. I love Christmas!
