In honor of the spookiest day of the year, Broadway.com asked readers to delve into the host of Broadway bad guys, from comic book villains to evil headmistresses and beyond, and decide which one they found the scariest. The results are in, and in an unprecedented outcome there are not one, but two ties! Take a look at the results below.
The General (The Book of Mormon) & Madame Morrible (Wicked) – 19%
Our first-place finishers in this Broadway scare contest could hardly be more different. The Book of Mormon’s General Butt-Fu**ing-Naked is a Ugandan warlord who shoots people in the face. Wicked’s Madame Morrible, headmistress in the hallowed halls of Shiz, is a magical professor from the Land of Oz who uses her powers for evil. No matter which one you think is scarier, you wouldn’t want to get on the bad side of either!
Scar (The Lion King) & The Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera) – 16%
The Lion King’s villainous Scar took home second place honors in this scare-off in a tie with the tortured title opera house dweller of The Phantom of the Opera. Simbas’s jealous, evil uncle spends his stage time plotting a murder or two in order to take over the throne, so his bad guy status is pretty well cemented. The Phantom may be looking for love, but his behind-the-scenes scare tactics and eerie underground lair certainly give him a spooky stage presence.
