The Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, will transfer to the West End's Adelphi Theatre on March 10, 2012. The production plays its final performance at its current home on November 5.
Directed by Jonathan Kent, the production also stars Lucy May Barker as Johanna, Peter Polycarpou as Beadle Bamford, John Bowe as Judge Turpin, Luke Brady as Anthony, Robert Burt as Pirelli, Gillian Kirkpatrick as the Begger Woman and James McConville as Tobias. Thr production features set and costume design by Anthony Ward, choreography by Denni Sayers, lighting design by Mark Henderson, musical direction by Nicholas Skilbeck and sound design by Paul Groothuis.
Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, Sweeney Todd first opened on Broadway on March 1, 1979. The production ran for 557 performances and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
