Everybody loves a wedding, and Broadway vet newlyweds Mario Cantone and Jerry Dixon recently shared details of their big day with Broadway.com. “We got married on October 5, on our rooftop, by Jay Bakker—Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker’s son, an outlaw preacher and a great guy,” Cantone said, “then we went to Del Posto for our wedding dinner.” Dixon takes up the tale of the couple’s celebration at one of Manhattan’s swankiest restaurants, co-owned by celebrity chefs Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali. “Lidia hosted us and made us a cake. We had a great wedding.”
A month after the family-only ceremony, the newlyweds invited friends from the theater community to join them for a cocktail reception. “Joe Mantello was there, John Benjamin Hickey and Nathan Lane and my sister and brother,” Cantone says. “It was a beautiful celebration.” Adds Dixon, “But no singing! Just eating and drinking.”
The couple is planning a spring 2012 honeymoon to Italy, but enjoyed a brief getaway to Northern California’s wine country as a joint celebration of their wedding and Dixon’s 50th birthday. After the trip, Dixon directed a presentation of the new musical A Good Man by Ray Leslie and Philip Goodman, starring Joshua Henry and Nikki M. James (or, as he put it, “Nikki Michelle James”). “The score is gorgeous and it’s going really well.”
