The Broadway-bound musical Newsies has been added to the lineup of performers in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The production will perform the show-stopping tap number “King of New York” live in Herald Square during the first hour of the television broadcast on November 24, which begins at 9AM ET on NBC.
Although casting has not been announced for the Broadway production of Newsies, which will begin its limited Broadway engagement on March 15 at the Nederlander Theatre, the parade performance will presumably feature actors who appeared in the show’s fall run at Paper Mill Playhouse—though not leading man Jeremy Jordan, who is currently in previews on Broadway as the star of Bonnie & Clyde.
In addition to Newsies, the 85th Macy's parade will include previously announced performances by Daniel Radcliffe and the cast of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as well as the casts of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Sister Act and Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. A rival telecast on CBS will feature the cast of Memphis.
