Broadway vet Jonny Lee Miller and Sheridan Smith are among the winners of the 2011 Evening Standard Awards, along with Matilda – the Musical, and plays One Man, Two Guvnors and The Heretic. The Evening Standard Awards were held on November 20 at London’s Savoy Hotel and hosted by Dame Edna Everage.
Matilda, which is now in previews prior to an official opening November 24 at the West End's Cambridge Theatre, earned Best Musical honors, while Richard Bean’s The Heretic and One Man, Two Guvnors (the latter headed ton Broadway in April 2012) were both awarded Best Play. Sheridan Smith took home the Best Actress award for her role in Flare Path and the Best Actor prize was shared by Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch, who alternated playing Victor Frankenstein and the Creature in Frankenstein at the National Theatre. Beyond Theatre award: The Most Incredible Thing - Pet Shop Boys and Javier de Frutos at Sadler’s Wells
The Lebedev Special Award: Kristin Scott Thomas, for her contribution to theatre
The Moscow Art Theatre’s Golden Seagull: Tom Stoppard, for his contribution to Russian theatre and the international stage
Best Night Out Award: Wicked
