Tony nominee Thomas Sadoski plans to leave the Broadway production of Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities on January 8, 2012, the conclusion of the play’s originally scheduled run at the Booth Theatre. As previously reported, Sadoski will take a hiatus from December 5 to 25 in order to begin work on the first season of The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin’s new HBO series. The actor will return to Broadway on December 27 for two weeks before exiting on January 8. No permanent replacement for Sadoski has been named; understudy Matthew Risch will play the role of Trip Wyeth in December.
According to a production spokesperson, Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach and Judith Light have extended their run in Other Desert Cities, and Rachel Griffiths is also expected to remain in the cast. The play centers on the Wyeth family of Palm Springs, which is rocked by the news that daughter Brooke (Griffiths) has written a tell-all memoir.
After an acclaimed off-Broadway premiere earlier this year, Other Desert Cities opened on Broadway on November 3, directed by Joe Mantello.
