Jon Robin Baitz’s acclaimed new play Other Desert Cities may be headed for the big screen, according to Deadline.com. Producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, the team behind the film adaptation of Sweeney Todd and stage production of Catch Me If You Can, acquired film rights to the play, which opened at Broadway's Booth Theatre on November 3. Baitz will write the script and co-produce. No studio, director or casting has been announced.
Other Desert Cities centers on the Wyeth family of Palm Springs, which is rocked by the news that daughter Brooke has written a tell-all memoir. As previously reported, Lincoln Center Theater has indefinitely extended the Broadway run, which was directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello. The stage production currently stars Rachel Griffiths, Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach, Judith Light and Thomas Sadoski.
