Playwright and actor Zach Braff will star as Charlie in the U.K. premiere of his play All New People, according to Deadline.com. Braff is scheduled to make his U.K. stage debut in a 10-week run at London's Duke of York Theatre beginning February 22, 2012 after limited engagemenets at the Manchester Opera House (February 8-11) and the King’s Theatre in Glasgow (February 14-18). The play will be directed by Peter DuBois.
All New People premiered in July 2011 at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre. The production, also directed by DuBois, starred The Hangover actor Justin Bartha as Charlie (the role to be played by Braff) as well as David Wilson Barnes, Anna Camp and Krysten Ritter. No other casting for the U.K. production has been announced.
In All New People, it’s the dead of winter and the summer vacation getaway of Long Beach Island, New Jersey, is desolate and blanketed in snow. Charlie is 35, heartbroken and just wants some time away from the rest of the world. The island ghost town seems to be the perfect escape until his solitude is interrupted by a motley parade of misfits who show up and change his plans. A hired beauty, the townie fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent desperately trying to stay in the country suddenly find themselves tangled together in a beach house where the mood is anything but sunny.
Braff is best known for his starring role in the TV series Scrubs and as the writer, director and star of hit indie film Garden State. He co-starred in Trust at Second Stage and in Public Theater productions of Twelfth Night and Macbeth. His film credits include The Broken Hearts Club, Getting To Know You, Manhattan Murder Mystery, The Last Kiss, The Ex and the upcoming Oz, The Great and Powerful.
