The original off-Broadway cast of Bruce Norris' Pulitzer Prize-winning play Clybourne Park will reprise their roles for the forthcoming Los Angeles production at the Mark Taper Forum. Helmed by returning director Pam MacKinnon, Clybourne Park begins performances on January 11, 2012, with opening night set for January 25. The limited engagement concludes February 26. While the show is eyeing a Broadway transfer, no details have been announced regarding a potential move.
The cast of Clybourne Park features Cyrstal A. Dickinson (Broke-ology) as Francine/Lena, Brendan Griffin (Bottom of the World) as Jim/Tom/Kenneth, Damon Gupton (Inked Baby) as Albert/Kevin, Christina Kirk (Knickerbocker) as Bev/Kathy, Annie Parisse (Prelude to a Kiss) as Betsy/Lindsay, Jeremy Shamos (Elling) as Karl/Steve and Tony winner Frank Wood (Side Man) as Russ/Dan.
Inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, Clybourne Park tells the story of two periods of transition in a suburban Chicago house. In act one, set in 1959, a Caucasian couple has sold the home to the neighborhood's first African-American family—much to the consternation of a rep from the local Rotary Club. In the second act, set in 2009, the house has been sold by a black family to a white couple who plan to tear it down and build a bigger home—much to the consternation of a rep from the now-integrated neighborhood association. The cast plays different roles in each of the play's two acts.
Clybourne Park first opened at off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons on February 21, 2010. The show has been mounted in London, where it won the Olivier Award for Best New Play, and had major productions in Chicago, San Francisco and Washington D.C.
