Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Uma Thurman is set to appear in a five-episode arc of NBC’s Smash, according to Entertainment Weekly. Thurman will play a hard-to-handle movie star who considers starring in Marilyn, Smash’s fictional Broadway musical.
Thurman earned an Oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction and won a Golden Globe for the TV movie Hysterical Blindness. She also starred as Ulla in the 2005 film adaptation of The Producers. Thurman’s additional film credits include Batman and Robin, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Motherhood, My Zinc Bed, The Accidental Husband, the Kill Bill series and the upcoming Eloise in Paris.
Smash stars Megan Hilty (9 to 5, Wicked) and Katharine McPhee (American Idol) as two actresses battling for the role of Marilyn Monroe in the musical Marilyn. The cast also features Broadway veterans Christian Borle, Brian d'Arcy James and Wesley Taylor in addition to Debra Messing and Angelica Huston.
The series is set to premiere on February 6, 2012 on NBC.
