In honor of the 25th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera, former Pussycat Dolls front woman and current X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger will perform the musical's title song on the telecast of the U.K.'s Royal Variety Performance. The performance will air on December 14 on the U.K.'s ITV.
At the performance, which was pre-recorded on December 5 at the Lowry in Salford, Scherzinger (who played Phantom leading lady Christine Daae) shared the stage with four experienced Phantoms: Simon Bowman, Earl Carpenter, Ramin Karimloo and John Owen-Jones.
Aside from her time as a Pussycat Doll and solo artist, Scherzinger is also the 2010 winner of Dancing With the Stars, and starred as Maureen in the 2010 Hollywood Bowl production of Rent.
The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running musical in Broadway history. The show played its first preview at the Majestic Theatre on January 9, 1988, starring Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine. Phantom is the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
In addition to the Royal Variety Performance with Scherzinger, The Phantom of the Opera recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a staged concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. A performance of the production was released on DVD on November 14.
