Roundabout Theatre Company will present a new off-Broadway revival of Simon Gray’s British drama The Common Pursuit at the Laura Pels Theatre this spring. Tony nominee Moisés Kaufman will direct the production, which begins previews on May 4, 2012, with opening night set for May 24. The cast and additional creative team will be announced shortly.
The Common Pursuit chronicles the lives of six friends throughout a 20-year span. When Stuart Thorne enlists his fellow Cambridge classmates to help him start a new literary magazine, the literature buffs become lifelong friends. Once the challenges of the real world set in, Stuart must make some unexpected decisions. The Common Pursuit first opened at the Lyric Theatre in London in 1984, and premiered in America in 1985 at the Long Wharf Theatre. In 1986, the drama ran off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre for 352 performances.
Kaufman directed Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo on Broadway earlier this year. His other Broadway directing credits include 33 Variations and I Am My Own Wife. As a playwright, Kaufman contributed to The Laramie Project and off-Broadway's Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays.
