Elizabeth Marvel, who originated the role of Brooke Wyeth in Other Desert Cities off-Broadway earlier this year, will replace Rachel Griffiths in the show's current Broadway production. Marvel will join Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach, Judith Light and Justin Kirk beginning March 6, 2012 at the Booth Theatre. Griffiths' final performance is set for March 4.
Written by Jon Robin Baitz and directed by Joe Mantello, Other Desert Cities follows Brooke Wyeth, a once promising novelist, who returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents (Channing and Keach), brother (Kirk) and aunt (Light). When Brooke announces she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil and the Wyeths are both bound together and torn apart as they struggle to come to terms with their past.
Marvel appeared on Broadway in Seascape, An American Daughter, Top Girls, Taking Sides, The Seagull and Saint Joan. She has also appeared in off-Broadway in Hedda Gabler, A Streetcar Named Desire, Therese Raquin and Misalliance, The Little Foxes, Troilus and Cressida, King Lear and Fifty Words. Her film and TV credits include True Grit, Synecdoche, Burn After Reading, Lights Out, The Good Wife and Nurse Jackie.
Kirk is set to take over the role of Trip Wyeth on January 10, after original cast member Thomas Sadoski departs the production on January 8.
