Zayd Dorhn’s Outside People begins previews on December 21 at off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre. Starring Li Jun Li, Matthew Dellapina, Nelson Lee and Sonequa Martin-Green and directed by Evan Cabnet, the play officially opens on January 10, 2012.
Set in the international crowd of modern-day Bejing, Outside People tells the story of Malcolm (Dellapina), a young American who falls in love with a Chinese woman, Xiao Mei (Li). Almost instantly, his eyes are opened to the distinct social, political and economic differences in their backgrounds that may come in the way of their relationship and tear their love apart. Malcolm must confront his deepest fears, desires and his complex place in a foreign culture.
Co-produced by the Vinyard Theatre and Naked Angels, Outside People will feature scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Jessica Wegener Shay, lighting design by Ben Stanton and sound design by Jill BC DuBoff.
