Tony nominee Colman Domingo and Scott Shepherd will star in the Signature Theatre production of Blood Knot, written and directed by Athol Fugard. Blood Knot marks the inaugural production in the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the new Signature Center, and is the first of three Athol Fugard plays that will be presented at Signature Theatre this season. The production begins previews on January 31, with opening night set for February 16. The limited engagement ends March 11.
Blood Knot is the story of two biracial South African brothers: the light-skinned Morris (Shepherd) and the dark-skinned Zach (Domingo). While Morris is able to pass for white, Zach feels imprisoned by his job at a park for whites only. Together, the pair struggles with poverty, isolation and the blood knot between them.
Domingo has appeared on Broadway in Passing Strange, Well, Chicago and The Scottsboro Boys, which earned him a 2011 Tony Award nomination. Shepherd starred in Gatz at the Public Theater, and has performed with Elevator Repair Service and The Wooster Group.
The production includes set design by Christopher H. Barreca, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Stephen Strawbridge and sound design by Brett Jarvis.
Signature also announced that Charlie Hudson III and Lloyd Watts have joined the previously announced cast of Katori Hall’s Hurt Village, which runs February 7 through March 18, 2012 and at The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at Signature Center.
