The game is over for the new basketball musical Lysistrata Jones, starring Patti Murin and Josh Segarra. The Broadway production will end its run on January 8 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The show, which opened on December 14, will have played 34 previews and 30 regular performances at the time of closing.
Featuring music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn and a book by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane, Lysistrata Jones is loosely based on Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. The show centers on the Athens University basketball team, which hasn’t won a game in 30 years. When spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones (Murin) encourages the squad’s fed-up girlfriends to stop “giving it up” to their boyfriends until they win a game, the basketball squad is forced to end their losing streak or risk seeing no action once they step foot off the court.
In addition to Murin and Segarra, Lysistrata Jones stars Liz Mikel, Jason Tam, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Alexander Aguilar, Ato Blankson-Wood, Katie Boren, Kat Nejat, LaQuet Sharnell, Teddy Toye and Alex Wyse, with understudies LaVon Fisher-Wilson, Libby Servias, Charlie Sutton, Barrett Wilbert Weed and Jared Zirilli.
