Grammy winner Taylor Swift has been offered the coveted role of Eponine in Tom Hooper’s film adaptation of Les Miserables, according to Twitchfilm.com. Swift was recently reported to be competing for the role against TV and film heavyweights Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood. Mamma Mia! actress Amanda Seyfried has also been offered the role of Cosette.
Swift and Seyfried are joining the previously announced Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras and Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Thénardiers. The film begins production in February 2012.
Swift won the Grammy for Album of the Year for her sophomore release Fearless. In 2009, she was named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine. She recently wrapped a world tour in support of her third album, Speak Now. She made her film debut in the ensemble comedy Valentine’s Day and provides vocals for the upcoming animated film The Lorax.
