The Broadway-bound musical Once, a stage adaptation of the 2007 Irish film featuring the Oscar-winning song “Falling Slowly,” will get an original cast recording. Masterworks Broadway, a label of Sony Masterworks, will release the album, which will be recorded on January 17, in anticipation of a March 2012 release.
Once which is currently running off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop, will transfer to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on February 28, with opening night set for March 18, directed by John Tiffany.
Steve Kazee stars as Guy opposite Cristin Milioti as Girl, the roles created on film by show composers Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Also in the company are David Abeles, Claire Candela, Will Connolly, Elizabeth Davis, David Patrick Kelly, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty and J. Michael Zygo.
Once is set in Dublin, where an Irish musician (Guy) and a Czech immigrant (Girl) are drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, an unexpected friendship and collaboration quickly evolves into a powerful but complicated love story, underscored by emotionally charged music.
The musical adaptation features a book by Irish playwright Enda Walsh, movement by Steven Hoggett, set and costume design by five-time Tony winner Bob Crowley, music direction by Martin Lowe, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Clive Goodwin.
