Things are up and rolling at off-Broadway’s Public Theater, where Gob Squad’s Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good) officially opens on January 23. The film-centric show, devised and performed by the German and British artists collective Gob Squad, invites audiences to take the hand of the King of Pop Art himself, Andy Warhol, for a trip back to the underground cinemas of New York City.
It's 1965 and everything is just about to happen. In a film made live on stage with bad coffee, nervous breakdowns, wild parties and modern hairstyles, Gob Squad reconstructs Warhol's films in the quest to illuminate the past for a new generation, reflect on the nature of authenticity, the here and now and the hidden depths beneath the shiny surfaces of modern life.
Gob Squad’s Kitchen will end its off-Broadway engagement on February 5.
