MCC Theater’s reworking of the musical Carrie, starring Marin Mazzie and Molly Ranson, begins performances off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning January 31. The updated and re-imagined production, directed by Stafford Arima, officially opens on March 1.
Joining Mazzie (as Carrie’s mother, Margaret) and Ranson (in the title role) are Christy Altomare as Sue Snell, Carmen Cusack as Miss Gardener, Jeanna de Waal as Chris Hargensen, Derek Klena as Tommy Ross and Ben Thompson as Billy Nolan. The production also features Wayne Wilcox, Corey Boardman, Blair Goldberg, F. Michael Haynie, Andy Mientus, Elly Noble and Jen Sese.
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, Carrie has not been seen in New York since its legendary 1988 Broadway production, which closed after five performances. MCC’s Carrie features additional music and lyrics by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford and an updated book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who adapted the 1974 novel for the 1976 Brian DePalma film.
