The West End revival of Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, starring Danny DeVito and Richard Griffiths, will play the Savoy Theatre beginning April 27. Directed by Thea Sharrock, The Sunshine Boys officially opens on May 17 and conclude its limited run on July 28. Further casting has yet to be announced.
The Sunshine Boys tells the story of ageing vaudevillian team Willie Clark and Al Lewis as they're asked to reunite on TV. The play was originally staged on Broadway in 1972 and earned three Tony nominations including Best Play. The Sunshine Boys was adapted into a movie in 1975 starring George Burns and Walter Matthau.
DeVito is best known for his work in films like Romancing The Stone, Batman Returns, Throw Mamma From The Train and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, as well as TV hits Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Griffiths, a veteran of the Harry Potter films, is a Tony winner for The History Boys. He also appeared on Broadway in Equus. His other screen roles include King Ralph, Sleepy Hollow and Guarding Tess.
The Sunshine Boys will feature set designs by Hildegard Bechtler with lighting by Neil Austin and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
