Bobby Cannavale is joining the cast of HBO's Boardwalk Empire as a series regular for the show's upcoming third season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Cannavale will play Gyp Rosetti, a charming but ruthless gangster who challenges Nucky (Steve Buscemi).
Cannavale is a Tony nominee for Mauritius and The Motherf**er With the Hat. He also recently finished filming a 10-episode arc for the upcoming season of Nurse Jackie. His other film and TV credits including an Emmy-winning turn on Will and Grace, The Station Agent, Win Win, Blue Bloods, Cupid and The Other Guys.
Set in 1920's Atlantic City, Boardwalk Empire follows the activities of prolific gangster Nucky Thompson. The show earned eight 2011 Emmy Awards and an additional 10 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. The series has featured turns from many stage veterans including Danny Burstein, Michael Shannon and Kathy Brier.
