Kecia Lewis-Evans (Chicago, The Drowsy Chaperone), Leslie Odom, Jr. (Rent, TV's Smash) and Krystal Joy Brown (Hair) will join previously announced stars Raúl Esparza, Jessica Phillips and Kendra Kassebaum in the upcoming Broadway musical Leap of Faith. Directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley, the new musical begins performances April 3 at the St. James Theatre. The opening night date, as well as the full ensemble, will be announced shortly.
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Leap of Faith follows full-time con artist Jonas Nightingale (Esparza) as his traveling ministry breaks down in a small Kansas town. He quickly pitches a tent and invites the locals to a revival. The town sheriff, Marla Humes (Phillips) is determined to stop him from separating the townspeople from their money.
Leap of Faith debuted at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre in 2010 with a production also starring Esparza and Kassebaum. The musical will feature choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis) and music by Alan Menken (Sister Act, Newsies), lyrics by Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid) and a book by Janus Cercone and Warren Leight.
