Since making his Rialto debut as a Roger replacement in Rent, Norbert Leo Butz has gone on create some of the most charming characters on Broadway, winning two Tony Awards in the process. He went dancing through life as Fiyero in Wicked, and then earned Tonys gunning for “Great Big Stuff” as Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and following the rules as Agent Carl Hanratty in Catch Me If You Can. Butz has also trod the boards in Enron, Speed-the-Plow, Is He Dead? and Thou Shalt Not, not to mention off-Broadway cult hits like Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years. This Broadway fave is now lending his inimitable charisma to a very different, much darker role: Uncle Peck in Paula Vogel’s Pulitzer Prize winner How I Learned to Drive, opposite Elizabeth Reaser at off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre.
