Late Night with David Letterman musical director Paul Shaffer will make a guest appearance in the February 16 performance of Godspell at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Shaffer previously served as the original conductor for the rock musical's acclaimed Toronto production in 1972. He will also take part in a post-show discussion with the audience.
Shaffer recently reunited with fellow Godspell veterans Victor Garber, Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin on the opening night of the current Broadway revival. Shaffer, who has served as the musical director on the Late Show with David Letterman since 1982, also conducted Godspell's original Broadway production in 1974. He has also released two solo albums, 1989’s Coast to Coast, which garnered him a Grammy nomination and 1983's The World’s Most Dangerous Party.
Directed by Daniel Goldstein and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, Godspell stars Hunter Parrish as Jesus, Wallace Smith as Judas and Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire, Celisse Henderson, Morgan James, Telly Leung, Lindsay Mendez, George Salazar and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.
