Tony winner Ellen Parkin will join The Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells as a star of the previously announced NBC TV pilot The New Normal, according to Deadline.com. Created by Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy and Allison Adler, the series will follow a gay couple trying to start a family. No further casting has been announced.
Rannells will play one half on the gay couple, while Barkin will play the woman who serves as the surrogate mother. The duo recently had a giddy time together while serving as guests on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live.
Barkin received a Tony Award for The Normal Heart. She has appeared off-Broadway in Eden Court, Fool For Love, Extremities and Killing on the Last Line. Her many film and TV credits include Sea of Love, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Ocean's 11, Another Happy Day and The Fan. She is also set to guest star in an upcoming episode of Modern Family.
