The original cast recording of soon-to-be Broadway musical Once will hit stores on March 13. The album will feature all of the songs written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for the 2007 film on which the musical is based, including the Oscar-winning hit "Falling Slowly." The album, recorded on January 17, is being released by Masterworks Broadway.
Once begins performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on February 28, with opening night set for March 18. John Tiffany directs.
Steve Kazee stars as Guy opposite Cristin Milioti as Girl, the roles created on film by show composers Hansard and Irglova. Also in the company are actor-musicians David Abeles, Will Connolly, Elizabeth Davis, David Patrick Kelly, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty and J. Michael Zygo.
Once is set in Dublin, where an Irish musician (Guy) and a Czech immigrant (Girl) are drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, an unexpected friendship and collaboration quickly evolves into a powerful but complicated love story, underscored by emotionally charged music.
The musical adaptation features a book by Irish playwright Enda Walsh, movement by Steven Hoggett, set and costume design by five-time Tony winner Bob Crowley, music direction by Martin Lowe, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Clive Goodwin.
