Tony winner Kelly Bishop will be joining her former Anything Goes co-star Sutton Foster in the upcoming ABC Family TV series Bunheads, according to Entertainment Weekly. Bishop will play Fanny, Foster’s mother-in-law in the new TV show by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. The series will begin production this spring.
Bunheads is the story of a trained ballerina (Foster) who works as a Vegas showgirl, then impulsively gets married and moves to California. In the coastal town of Paradise, she takes a teaching job at her mother-in-law’s dance studio.
Bishop starred as Evangeline Harcourt in Anything Goes for five months of its Broadway run. She won a Tony for A Chorus Line and has also appeared on Broadway in Promises, Promises, Golden Rainbow, On the Town, Precious Sons, Six Degrees of Separation, Bus Stop, The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Proposals. Bishop reunites with Sherman-Palladino after starring for seven seasons on Gilmore Girls as Lorelai’s mother Emily. She has also appeared on film and TV in Dirty Dancing, Wonder Boys and One Life to Live.
