Broadway veteran and The Hangover star Justin Bartha will play the husband to The Book of Mormon’s Andrew Rannells in the new NBC pilot The New Normal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Also added to the cast is Scottish actress Georgia King, who will play the couple’s surrogate. Ellen Barkin will play the King’s “often racist” grandmother.
The single-camera sitcom, co-written by Glee’s Ryan Murphy and Allison Adler and directed by Murphy, is described as "a heartwarming comedy about a blended family of a gay couple (Rannells and Bartha) and the woman (King) who becomes a surrogate to help them start a family."
Bartha appeared on Broadway as Max in the revival of Lend Me a Tenor. He appeared off-Broadway in Asuncion and All New People. In addition to The Hangover, his film credits include The Hangover Part II, Dark Horse, New York, I Love You and Failure to Launch.
