The world premiere of Katori Hall’s drama Hurt Village has extended its run at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre in the new Signature Center. Directed by Patricia McGregor and starring Tony winner Tonya Pinkins, Hurt Village opened February 27 and was scheduled to run until March 18. The Signature Theatre production will now play through March 25.
Based on a real-life housing project in Memphis, Tennessee, Hurt Village is the story of a family who faces eviction when the city receives a government grant to demolish their building.
In addition to Pinkins, the production stars Marsha Stephanie Blake, Corey Hawkins, Joaquina Kalukango, Nicholas Christopher, Charlie Hudson III, Ron Cephas Jones, Saycon Sengbloh and Lloyd Watts.
