The game is back on for Broadway’s basketball musical Lysistrata Jones. Patti Murrin, Josh Segarra and the musical's cast will reunite for a concert at Joe's Pub on April 9. The group is also set to record a cast album on March 1. No release date has been announced at this time.
Featuring music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn and a book by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane, Lysistrata Jones is loosely based on Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. The show centers on the Athens University basketball team, which hasn’t won a game in 30 years. When spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones (Murin) encourages the squad’s fed-up girlfriends to stop “giving it up” to their boyfriends until they win a game, the basketball squad is forced to end their losing streak, or risk seeing no action once they step foot off the court.
In addition to Murin and Segarra, Lysistrata Jones starred Liz Mikel, Jason Tam, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Alexander Aguilar, Ato Blankson-Wood, Katie Boren, Kat Nejat, LaQuet Sharnell, Teddy Toye and Alex Wyse, with understudies LaVon Fisher-Wilson, Libby Servias, Charlie Sutton, Barrett Wilbert Weed and Jared Zirilli.
After a summer off-Broadway run, the musical opened at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre on December 14, 2011. The production closed on January 8 after 34 preview and 30 regular performances.
