The Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man begins previews March 6 at the Schoenfeld Theatre. Directed by Michael Wilson, the production is set to open April 1. The political drama features five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury, two-time Tony winner James Earl Jones, stage and screen favorite Eric McCormack and Tony winner John Larroquette, in addition to Michael McKean, Candice Bergen, Tony nominee Kerry Butler and Tony winner Jefferson Mays.
Set at the national convention, The Best Man centers around two candidates vying for their party’s nomination during the primary season. Gore Vidal’s drama is a play about power, ambition, political secrets, ruthlessness and the race for the presidency. The Best Man is an inside look of the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering.
The Best Man also features Donna Hanover, Curtis Billing, Corey Brill, Tony Carlin, Sherman Howard, Bill Kux, James Lecesne, Dakin Matthews, Angelica Page, Fred Parker, Jr. and Amy Tribbey.
The production's design team includes scenic designer Derek McLane, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, music and sound designer John Gromada and costume designer Ann Roth.
