The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad has earned a Comedy Award nomination for Breakout Performer of the Year. Gad will compete for the honor against fellow comedians Zooey Deschanel, Donald Glover, Melissa McCarthy and Jason Sudeikis. The winner will be announced April 26, with the second annual awards ceremony broadcast May 6 on Comedy Central.
The Comedy Awards honors the year's best comedy actors, films, television series and digital content. This year the awards also recognized Broadway veteran Ty Burrell (Macbeth) for his work on Modern Family, and Relatively Speaking scribe Woody Allen as Best Comedy Director for Midnight in Paris.
Gad, who received a Tony nomination for his performance as Elder Cunningham in the The Book of Mormon, has several projects in the works including a new animated film Me & My Shadow, the upcoming sex-addict comedy Thanks for Sharing and a new NBC pilot 1600 Penn. Gad wrote, produced and will star as the son of the president (Bill Pullman) on the White House comedy. He also appeared in the film Love and Other Drugs and is a frequent correspondent on TV’s The Daily Show.
