Previews begin for the Broadway transfer of Peter and the Starcatcher on March 28 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The whimsical play, which is a prequel to Peter Pan, is co-directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers and stars Adam Chanler-Berat, Christian Borle and Celia Keenan-Bolger. The show officially opens on April 15.
Adapted by Rick Elice from the Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson novel of the same name, Peter and the Starcatcher features a company of 12 actors portraying some 50 characters, all on a journey to answer the question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Refused To Grow Up? The cast also features Teddy Bergman, Rick Holmes, Arnie Burton, Matt D’Amico, Kevin Del Aguila, Carson Elrod, Greg Hildreth and David Rossmer. The show previously played a sold-out run at off-Broadway's New York Theater Workshop during the spring of 2011.
"You get to redisover this person you thought you knew your whole life," Chanler-Berat recently told Broadway.com of exploring the Peter Pan legacy. "This Peter Pan that we've created is sort of like the punk version of Peter Pan."
The creative team features Wayne Barker (music), Steven Hoggett (movement), Marco Paguia (music direction), Donyale Werle (scenic design), Paloma Young (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and Darron L. West (sound design).
