Fat Camp, the Outstanding Musical winner at the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival, is set for off-Broadway’s American Theatre of Actors.Directed by Casey Hushion, Fat Camp features a book by Randy Blair and Timothy Michael Drucker, lyrics by Blair and music by Matthew Roi Berger. Performances begin on April 12.
Recreating their roles from the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival production are Carly Jibson (Hairspray) as Daphne, Cale Krise as Anshell, Kate Weber as Britta, Larry Owens as Darnell, Nancy Renée Braun and Michael Mendez. The cast will also feature Daniel Everidge as Robert, Molly Hager as Taylor, Jared Zirilli as Brent, Kati Rediger as Ashley, Marcus Neville as Mike, Janet Dickinson as Sandy, Charles Barksdale, Michael Buchanan, Bridie Carroll and Jennifer Foster.
Fat Camp tells the story of Robert Grisetti, a rock-and-roll rebel readying for summer. Nothing is going to change anything about his life this season—except for his ex-Navy Seal father, two suspiciously cheery camp counselors and a 12-foot barbed wire fence. At Camp Overton, a weight loss retreat for hefty teenagers, secrets, sex, S’mores, and self-image collide in a new musical exploring the trials and triumphs of being “the fat kid.”
Fat Camp features choreography by Kelly Devine, musical direction by Jason DeBord, scenic design is by Tony nominee Wilson Chin, costumes design by Tony nominee David Woolard, sound design by Matt Kraus and lighting design by Jason Lyons. The musical is produced by Carl Levin, Michael Minarik and The Dodgers.
