Before he arrives at Broadway's Music Box Theatre to reprise his starring role in British smash hit One Man, Two Guvnors beginning April 6, James Corden spruced himself up on the pages of Vogue for photographer Ralph Mecke and and took a moment to talk to Adam Green about his gluttonous onstage alter ego.
“He just wants a good feed, a little something to drink, and a good time with a girl at the end of the night,” Corden said of his character, Francis Henshall. “In that respect, he’s not that different from you and me and every other man walking the planet.” In real life, Corden recently lost 70 pounds, but joked, “I'm still huge.”
Set the dingy seaside town of Brighton in the 1960s, One Man, Two Guvnors is chockablock with slapstick comedy, pratfalls and double takes—and it’s Corden’s dream job. “I didn’t grow up wanting to play Hamlet—I grew up wanting to do this,” Corden said. “I don’t know if I’ll ever have a better part. It’s an absolute joy. For two and a half hours every night, all that’s required of you is to get up in front of a lot of people and be as funny as possible. It’s the best job in the world, innit?”
