Tony and Grammy winner Heather Headley (Aida) recently starred in a showcase version of the forthcoming musical adaptation of the 1992 film The Bodyguard, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. The new musical will include the movie’s signature song “I Will Always Love You,” plus selection of hits from both the film and Whitney Houston’s catalogue. The new musical will open at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre in November 2012, starring Headley as Marron.
In addition to “I Will Always Love You,” The Bodyguard will include “Queen of the Night,” “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” “Saving All My Love For You,” “So Emotional,” “Run to You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “I Have Nothing,” “All the Man That I Need,” “I’m Every Woman,” “All at Once,” “How Will I Know” and “One Moment In Time.”
The Bodyguard film starred Houston as Marron, a soul singer who hires former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (played by Kevin Costner in the film), as her bodyguard to protect her from a crazed, violent fan. The film's soundtrack won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
