Venus actress Jodie Whittaker will make her National Theatre debut in the title role of the forthcoming production of Antigone, according to The Daily Mail. Directed by Polly Findlay, Antigone begins performances at the National Theatre's Olivier Theatre on May 23, with an opening set for May 30.
Sophocles’ classic drama Antigone, follows the title character, a daughter of Oedipus, as she stands up against Thebes’ current ruler, Creon. Joinging Whittaker is Dr. Who star Christopher Eccleston as Creon, as well as Annabel Scholey, Zoe Aldrich, Jamie Ballard, Luke Norris and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Whittaker broke out in the 2006 film Venus, opposite Peter O’Toole. She appeared on TV in Marchlands and Black Mirror. Her previous stage credits include Awake and Sing!, Enemies, The Storm, The Seagull and Bash.
