Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters will be honored with the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award at the New Dramatists' 63rd Annual Spring Luncheon. The event will take place on May 24 at the New York Marriott Marquis.
“Bernadette Peters is one of those rare performing artists with an original voice,” said New Dramatists artistic director Todd London in a statement. “She has brought a new sound into the theatre and continues to do so, in surprising and miraculous ways.”
Peters won Tony Awards for Annie Get Your Gun and Song and Dance. Her other Broadway credits include Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park With George, On the Town, The Goodbye Girl, Gypsy, A Little Night Music, The Most Happy Fella, Mack & Mabel, George M!, La Strada and most recently, Follies. Peters’ film and TV credits include Annie, Cinderella, Ugly Betty, Anastasia and currently, a recurring role on TV’s Smash.
Past New Dramatists luncheon honorees have included Julie Taymor, Horton Foote, Edward Albee, Harvey Fierstein, Chita Rivera, Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Julie Andrews, Glenn Close, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Miller, Neil Simon, Jerry Herman, Terrence McNally, Barbara Cook, John Kander & Fred Ebb, August Wilson, George C. Wolfe and Gwen Verdon.
