Producer Emanuel “Manny” Azenberg will receive the 2012 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
Azenberg has produced 65 productions for Broadway, receiving 25 Tony Award nominations. He has won eight Tony Awards for Private Lives, Lost in Yonkers, Biloxi Blues, Joe Egg, The Real Thing, Master Harold and the Boys, Children of a Lesser God and Ain’t Misbehavin’. His additional Broadway producing credits include The Odd Couple, Movin’ Out, Stones in His Pockets, Ragtime, The Iceman Cometh, Rumors, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Sunday in the Park with George, The Lion in Winter and all Neil Simon productions from 1970 through 2009. In addition to his role as a producer, Azenberg has served as the General Manager for over 150 shows. Born and raised in the Bronx, Azenberg served as a First Lieutenant with the 25th U.S. infantry and is a graduate of New York University. He has been a professor at Duke University for the past 25 years, and is married with five children.
The 66th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from the Beacon Theatre on CBS on June 10. Neil Patrick Harris is set to host.
