John Davidson will join the cast of The Fantasticks as Henry on June 1 at off-Broadway's Snapple Theater Center. Davidson, who starred as Matt in the 1964 TV adaptation of the musical, will play a limited engagement through June 16.
Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks concerns two neighboring fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure their son and daughter—knowing that children always do what their parents forbid—will fall in love. After the young lovers discover their fathers' plot, each goes off to experience the world before returning to one another. The score includes such hits as “Try To Remember,” “They Were You” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”
Davidson’s Broadway credits include State Fair and Foxy. His other theater credits include High Infidelity, The Music Man, L'il Abner, 110 In The Shade, Camelot and Carousel. He is best known as a TV personality and the host of such shows as The New Hollywood Squares and One Hundred Thousand Dollar Pyramid.
The Fantasticks currently feautres Aaron Carter, Edward Watts, Whitney Bashor, Bill Bateman, MacIntyre Dixon, Tom Flagg, Matt Leisy, Michael Nostrand, Dan Sharkey, Juliette Trafton and Charles West.
